Gifted Education in Georgia

The Georgia Department of Education’s Gifted Program is funded by the State of Georgia. In Georgia, a gifted education student is defined as one who demonstrates a high degree of intellectual and/or creative ability(ies), exhibits an exceptionally high degree of motivation, and/or excels in specific academic fields, and who needs special instruction and/or special ancillary services to achieve at levels commensurate with his or her ability(ies).

 Gifted Education Curriculum in Henry County School

Gifted education teachers collaborate to provide instruction that supports Henry Teaching and Learning Standards and Balanced Models of Instruction. Schools may modify curriculum in the areas of math, science, social studies, English/language arts, world language, fine arts, and CTAE. Using principles of differentiation, teachers develop a curriculum for identified gifted students that emphasizes advanced, conceptually challenging, in-depth, distinctive, and complex content. Activities provide students with the opportunity to extend learning in the areas of research, communication, and technology, as well as higher-order thinking skills. Each student should have access to a differentiated curriculum that meets his or her area(s) of strength.
